Parks and Trails

The Parks & Trails division of Public Works is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s parks and trail system. The City of Baxter trail system is one of the finest in the area, enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The southern trail head of the Paul Bunyan Trail is located by the Northland Arboretum, just north of Excelsior Rd.

Recreation Programs are are provided by a partnership with ISD#181 Community Education

Oscar Kristofferson (Baxter) Park

Oscar Kristofferson Park is located at 5672 Baxter Lions Rd (behind Baxter Elementary School)and is also called Baxter City Park.

There is a Pavilion with kitchen for picnic use that may be used and reserved by calling Baxter City Hall at 218-454-5100 or by filling out the form below. The Park contains four ball fields, hockey and open skating rink.

Whipple Beach Recreation Area

Baxter’s public beach area located at 14441 Oakwood Dr, on Whipple Lake, opens in mid-June. Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week beginning at 11 am. There is also a picnic area and fishing pier available.

Southdale Park and Soccer Fields

Located one-half mile South of Hwy 210 on County Rd #48, at 12599 Mountain Ash Dr, Southdale Park contains a playground, two soccer fields and picnic area.

Loren Thompson Park

Located in the Parkwood Addition at 13015 Kingwood Dr, Loren Thompson Park has a ball field and hockey rink with area available for open skating. There is also a pavilion for picnics and may be reserved by calling Baxter City Hall at 218-454-5100 or by filling out the form below.

Berrywood Park

Berrywood Park is located at 13199 Berrywood Dr, between College Rd and Highland Scenic Rd (County Rd #48). It contains a playground, ball field, tennis court, basketball court and picnic area.
